Gary B. Beikirch '81 Military Service Scholarship

The Gary B. Beikirch ’81 Military Scholarship, initially created as the Veterans Scholarship, recognizes an outstanding student who is currently on active duty, serving in the reserves, or a veteran of the U.S. armed forces. Sgt. Beikirch, joined the U. S. Army in 1967, served as a medical specialist in the Special Forces Division during the Vietnam War. In 1973, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for risking his life to save comrades beyond the call of duty during action at Camp Dak Seang in Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during that conflict.

This scholarship recognizes an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student at SUNY Brockport, who is a veteran of the United States Military, and possesses a minimum GPA of 2.75. Applicants should also demonstrate a need for financial assistance as judged by the FAFSA.

The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
