Alvin F. and Ruth K. Thiem Foundation Nursing Scholarships
Alvin F. and Ruth K. Thiem participated in the Rochester business community where Mr. Thiem represented insurance companies and Mrs. Thiem was an elementary school teacher. Together they owned and operated a riding stable near Durand Eastman Park. Mr. Thiem established a foundation to support local education, health, and civic organizations in both their names after Mrs. Thiem’s passing in the 1980s. The foundation was significantly funded by Mr. Thiem’s estate in 2002 and 2003.
To support students pursuing nursing careers, the Thiem Foundation has partnered with SUNY Brockport and other local schools, making a nursing education more accessible and affordable.
As of the 2019-20 academic year, the Thiem Foundation has supported more than 200 nursing scholarships at Brockport.
Thiem Foundation scholarships at Brockport recognize nursing students who are accepted into the baccalaureate program in the Department of Nursing with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, who demonstrate a commitment to a career in nursing as determined by the Department of Nursing Scholarship Selection Committee, and who demonstrate their potential for excellence through the required essay.
