Ambrose L. Corcoran Art Award
Dr. Eileen Corcoran established the Ambrose L. Corcoran Art Award to honor her husband’s 35-year career as a faculty member in the Department of Art at SUNY Brockport. The scholarship recognizes an outstanding junior art major who has the highest grade-point average in non-studio art courses at Brockport.
Mr. Corcoran joined the Brockport faculty in 1946, serving as chair of the art department from 1967 to 1972. He was a charter member of the Brockport Faculty Senate and drafted its first constitution. He also served as a president of the organization. He retired in 1981 and passed away in 1997.
Students who qualify for the Ambrose L. Corcoran Art Award have completed enough hours to qualify as junior students. At least 30 of those hours must have been earned at Brockport. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better and must have the highest GPA among all junior art majors in courses taught outside the Department of Art.
