Bessie Walker Browne Award

The Bessie Walker Browne Award recognizes an exemplary elementary teacher certification student. This award honors either a Brockport elementary teacher certification candidate whose achievement in certification reading courses indicates excellent potential for teaching reading in elementary grades, or a student who already has a degree and is seeking elementary education certification through SUNYt Brockport.

Established in her memory by her late husband, Mark H. Browne, and her son, David M. Browne, this scholarship pays tribute to the memory of Bessie Walker Browne, a member of Brockport’s Class of 1927 and a dedicated teacher of children.

Each year the Department of Education and Human Development selects one recipient of this scholarship.
