Charles W. Baden Award

Charles W. Baden Award

Charles W. Baden had attended two other schools before he enrolled at SUNY Brockport, where he graduated in 1976. He told his younger brother Robert A. (Bob) Baden ’79 that Brockport was big enough to let him study a variety of subjects and small enough so he would not get lost. Charles Baden was an outstanding student in mathematics and computer science as well as a master chess player, recognized as one of the best in the Rochester area.

After his graduation, Charles accepted a position with the Hewlett-Packard Company where he remained until his sudden passing in the fall of 1983.

Bob, along with other family members and colleagues from the Hewlett-Packard Company, established this scholarship in his brother’s memory to recognize a student who exemplifies the love of learning, creative intelligence, courageous tenacity, and joyful spirit that Charles Baden exhibited.

To qualify for this award, students must be juniors or seniors in the year for which the award is made, who are majoring in computer science and/or mathematics, demonstrate an interest and skill in problem solving, and have a GPA of 3.5 or better.
