Corazon Fuerte Scholarship

Corazon Fuerte Scholarship

The Association of Latinx American Students at SUNY Brockport established the Corazon Fuerte (Strong Heart) Scholarship at the College to recognize an incoming or enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at the College.

The Association of Latinx American Students (ALAS) is a Brockport Student Government-sanctioned club that is dedicated to educating its members and the campus community about the diverse Latinx cultures while fostering awareness among the club’s members of themselves as students, citizens, and Latinx. The club’s goal is to promote active participation in the diverse Latinx communities through service and direct action and to promote unity among Latinx students and with other ethnic groups at SUNY Brockport.

ALAS also supports leadership development for its members, and it advocates for its members while addressing educational issues. The organization also encourages members to participate in college and community activities.

Candidates for the Corazon Fuerte Scholarship can be an incoming or enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at SUNY Brockport, who is a first-time freshman, sophomore, junior, or returning graduate student. Applicants must demonstrate their academic ability by having a GPA of 2.0 or better. They must submit an essay of at least 500 words on the topic, “Describe an obstacle you have experienced or a time when you have exemplified leadership; please explain how this experience allowed you to grow wand what you learned from it.” They also must have a letter of recommendation submitted on their behalf. Ideally this letter will be from an employer or from a faculty or staff member at Brockport. Preference will go to applicants who are of Latinx/Hispanic descent or are active members of ALAS.
