Cyril and Gertrude Stanton Hare Scholarship
Marguerite Hare Browne ’44 established this scholarship at SUNY Brockport in 1989 to honor the memory of her parents Cyril Hare, Sr., (1897-1969) and Gertrude Stanton Hare (1899-1985). Mrs. Browne, an associate professor emerita and a member of the Brockport Alumni Association Hall of Heritage, established a series of scholarships to encourage the study of education at The College at Brockport.
Mrs. Browne served as a member of the Department of Education faculty from 1949 to 1985 and as a clinical professor and founder of the SUNY Brockport/Greece Central Teaching Center in 1969. When she retired from her academic career, Mrs. Browne joined the Brockport Foundation, serving as director of special projects and emeriti affairs until 1992.
The Cyril and Gertrude Stanton Hare Scholarship recognizes a non-traditional student who is aged 25 or older and who is accepted into any teacher certification program at the College. Applicants should demonstrate potential for success in education and have at least two semesters remaining at Brockport.
