Donald M. Tower Award

Donald M. Tower Award

Donald M. Tower served as president of Brockport STC from 1944 to 1964, an era of profound change and growth in terms of enrollment, faculty, facilities, and programs. His administration was known for its evolutionary, not revolutionary, approach to change.

Born in Dundee, NY, Dr. Tower received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Albany State Teachers College and his doctorate from New York University. He served as a public school teacher and administrator in Olean, Binghamton, and Mamaroneck before joining the faculty at Oswego State Teachers College as director of training. From that post, he became Brockport’s president. Upon retiring from Brockport in 1964, Dr. Tower was named president emeritus. He passed away in 1977.

The Donald M. Tower Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated scholastic merit and professional promise in the field of physical education. To be eligible, students must be second semester seniors who rank in the upper half of their class.
