Dr. Betty J. Watson Scholarship

Dr. Betty J. Watson Scholarship

Dr. Betty J. Watson ’46 endowed the scholarship in her name as a bequest to recognize outstanding students in the Department of Education and Human Development at SUNY Brockport who are enrolled in the Adolescence Inclusive Teacher Certification program.

Following her graduation from Brockport, Dr. Watson enjoyed a long and satisfying career in education as a teacher, supervisor, and principal in the Fairport Central School District. She earned her doctoral degree in educational administration from the University of Rochester in 1965.

Dr. Watson decided to attend Brockport when Dr. Bernard Drake came to Nazareth Academy to talk about the college during her senior year in high school. She remained active with the Brockport community after her graduation, serving in many leadership positions with the Brockport Alumni Association, including president of the BAA from 1967 to 1969.

She remembered the wonderful rapport between students and faculty as a highlight of her undergraduate studies. Her favorite reunion was one where alumni shared memories of their time at Brockport.

This scholarship recognizes one or more eligible students accepted into the Adolescence Inclusive Teacher Certification program, who have a GPA of 3.25 at time of application, and who submit an essay that describes their commitment to contributing to the success of future students.
