Ella Potote Ashworth Departmental Scholar Award in Education and Human Development

Ella Potote Ashworth ’33 established her scholarship at SUNY Brockport to recognize an outstanding senior who has demonstrated exceptional performance in student teaching.
After graduating from the College, Mrs. Ashworth taught elementary school in the Love Canal area of Niagara Falls for 40 years. She was an early participant in the Head Start program.

After she retired from teaching, she moved to Rochester, where she continued her involvement with education through the Circle Club at McQuaid Jesuit High School, the University of Rochester, and the scholarship program at Brockport. She established another Brockport scholarship for a student in the School of Business and Management in memory of her husband Charles Ashworth.

To qualify for the Ella Potote Ashworth Departmental Scholar Award, applicants must be full-time senior students who have demonstrated exceptional performance in student teaching as defined by the statement, “consistently exceeds performance level of that expected by a beginning teacher.” Students also must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 with no grade below a B in education courses, have registered in a teacher certification program in the Department of Education and Human Development, and have completed a minimum of four semesters at Brockport, having completed all education courses in the certification program.
