Evelyn L. Schurr Scholarship

Dr. Evelyn L. Schurr, with support from friends and colleagues, established this scholarship to recognize an outstanding undergraduate student in the Physical Education Teacher Education major at SUNY Brockport who has demonstrated the potential for excellence in teaching.

Dr. Schurr was a faculty member in the Physical Education Teacher Education certification program at Brockport. A well-known and respected educator, she was the author of Movement Experiences for Children, a book that offers a humanistic approach to elementary school physical education, and its companion, Movement Experiences for Children: Curriculum and Methods for Elementary School Physical Education, published in 1967.

To qualify for this scholarship, students must be enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education major in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education at the College. They must plan to enroll in student teaching in the upcoming academic year with at least one semester, preferably two, remaining at Brockport, have a minimum GPA of 3.25, demonstrate exceptional skill and sensitivity in working with students, and exhibit a commitment to education.
