Frederick G. Turner Pre-Law Scholarship
For more than 50 years, Frederick G. Turner practiced law as a sole practitioner in Clinton, NY, near Utica. According to his son, Scott Turner, chair of the SUNY Brockport College Council and himself a lawyer, Mr. Frederick Turner was thoughtful, considerate, and passionate about the law. A former Eagle Scout, he was active in his community through service as a Clinton Village Justice, and through his involvement with the Community Chest, Kiwanis, his church, and the Boy Scouts.
Mr. Turner graduated from Colgate University and the Boston University Law School. During World War II, he served as an officer in the Army Air Corps, working as a cryptanalyst in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines.
He enjoyed time in the Adirondacks and had climbed many of the High Peaks. He was adept at playing Scrabble and solving crosswords puzzles, an ability that his son attributes to his solving Japanese codes during his military service.
Scott Turner and Mary Worboys-Turner established the Frederick G. Turner Pre-Law Scholarship to honor his memory by supporting a student enrolled in the pre-law program at Brockport.
