Helen Rice Blissett Nursing Scholarship
SUNY Brockport alumnus Dale R. Blissett ’59 established the Helen Rice Blissett Nursing Scholarship to honor the memory of his mother, Helen Rice Blissett, a Depression-era lady who would have like to have had the opportunity to become a nurse.
Mr. Blissett was a member of Brockport’s track team while a student. He specialized in the high jump and the broad jump. During the 1958 New York State Intercollegiate competition, he came in third in the high jump. He also was co-captain of the undefeated 1958 track team.
The Helen Rice Blissett Nursing Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student accepted into the Brockport Department of Nursing who has a GPA of at least 3.0 and who demonstrates financial need as evidenced by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Eligible applicants should also demonstrate the potential for excellence as a nurse. Preference will go to a student who has a permanent residence in Orleans County.
