J. Scott Atkinson
A native of Rochester, J. Scott Atkinson earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Roberts Wesleyan College, where he began his career. There, he worked in financial aid, residential life, conference services, and central administration. He then joined the University of Rochester Medical School staff as financial aid director/bursar.
He earned a master’s degree in counseling at SUNY Brockport in 1982, and in 1986, he joined the Brockport staff as financial aid director, looking forward to the diversified work the college offered. During his time at Brockport, Mr. Atkinson headed the student services team and added Enrollment Management to his responsibilities. He also served on the Middle States Accreditation Steering Committee in 2012, the Human Resources Service Delivery Initiative in 2014, and as a contributor to the 2011-2016 Strategic Plan. In addition, he was and continues to be an advisor to SUNY Brockport’s Omicron Delta Kappa Circle as well as advisor to the Eta Lambda Chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He has also been recognized as the Chapter Advisor of the Year by the national organization.
Beyond Brockport, Mr. Atkinson was recognized for his expertise in financial aid matters, becoming an active member of the SUNY Financial Aid organization and serving the group as treasurer, and as president of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators.
