J. Scott Atkinson Scholarship
A native of Rochester, J. Scott Atkinson earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Roberts Wesleyan College, where he began his career. There, he worked in financial aid, residential life, conference services, and central administration. He then joined the University of Rochester Medical School staff as financial aid director/bursar.
He earned a master’s degree in counseling at SUNY Brockport in 1982, and in 1986, he joined the Brockport staff as financial aid director, looking forward to the diversified work the college offered. During his time at Brockport, Mr. Atkinson headed the student services team, and added Enrollment Management to his responsibilities. He also served on the Middle States Accreditation Steering Committee in 2012, the Human Resources Service Delivery Initiative in 2014, and as a contributor to the 2011-2016 Strategic Plan. In addition, he was an advisor to the Brockport chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
Beyond Brockport, Mr. Atkinson was recognized for his expertise in financial aid matters, becoming an active member of the SUNY Financial Aid organization and serving the group as treasurer, and as president of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators.
The J. Scott Atkinson Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student who is an active participant in the Eta Lambda Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and who demonstrates a commitment to brotherhood.
To qualify for this scholarship, students must be active members of the Eta Lambda Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, exemplify the ideals and characteristics of the organization, and demonstrate academic excellence with a GPA of 2.75 or better. In the event there is no eligible member of Pi Kappa Phi, secondary preference will go to a member of another recognized Greek social organization at Brockport. If there are no eligible Greek applicants, the award may go to the third preference—a student heavily involved in campus activities.
