Kathleen Krebs Scholarship

Kathleen Krebs Scholarship

The Kathleen Krebs Scholarship at SUNY Brockport was established in her memory by her spouse Mary Santoro to support counselor education students at The College at Brockport. The award recognizes a non-traditionally aged graduate student accepted into the Department of Counselor Education.

Kathleen Krebs, or Kathy as her family, friends and colleagues knew her, earned her master’s degree in counselor education with an emphasis in school counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in school counseling at Brockport. She served as a school counselor for the Avon, NY, Junior/Senior High School until her retirement.

In her approach to counseling, she practiced proactive, collaborative, and creative problem-solving methods, such as implementing a crisis counseling response team to assist schools with emergency situations. Her efforts inspired school districts across the region to design their own crisis response teams.

A founding member of Nu Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International, she served in nearly every leadership role, including treasurer and co-chair of the Joseph R. Kandor Award Committee during her 26 years of membership. Following her passing in 2011, Nu Chapter founded the Kathleen Krebs Outstanding Service to Nu Chapter, Chi Sigma Iota Award to honor her inspirational selflessness, dedication, and service to the organization.

Ms. Krebs was a dedicated mentor to school counselors, and she supported student success and professional development. She was committed to the Department of Counselor Education and Nu Chapter, Chi Sigma Iota.
