Marion D. Schrank Student Leadership Award

Marion D. Schrank Student Leadership Award

The Marion D. Schrank Student Leadership Award is the pinnacle of student leadership awards at The College at Brockport. The recipient exemplifies integrity and civility, with a demonstrated desire to build a better community.

The Schrank Student Leadership Award honors Marion D. Schrank ’69, PhD, vice president for Student Affairs emerita at the College. Dr. Schrank graduated with a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education. While a student at Brockport, she was active in residence hall and student government and residence life activities. In 1972, she joined the College staff in Student Affairs. She earned her master’s degree in education in 1975, and her PhD in non-profit/public organizational management from the University at Buffalo in 1995.

At Brockport, Dr. Schrank was considered the ultimate mentor, supporter, and recognized champion of student success. When she retired in 2002 after more than 30 years at the College, the Brockport administration renamed the student leadership award in her honor. At the same time, an endowed fund was established to keep her legacy alive.

The Marion D. Schrank Student Leadership Award is regarded as similar in prestige to the SUNY Chancellor’s Award and the Brockport President’s Citation. The recipient receives recognition at the Annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony, where they deliver the keynote address.
