Michael Prounis '77 Washington Internship Award

Michael Prounis ’77 established the Michael Prounis ’77 Washington Internship Award at SUNY Brockport to recognize an outstanding student in the college’s Washington Internship Program who has demonstrated a commitment and the potential for excellence in a career in international affairs.

In 1976, as part of the Washington Semester Program, Mr. Prounis was selected to intern at the U.S. State Department, Office of Southern African Affairs, an experience that he believes offered exceptional preparation for his career as a global consultant.

Now managing director of AlixPartners in New York City, Mr. Prounis has participated in more than one thousand legal-technology-related projects, including some of the largest and most complex international mergers, cross-border investigations, and intellectual property disputes. Before joining AlixPartners 20 years ago, he served as CEO of Evidence Exchange and Prounis Consulting Group, two New York City-based eDiscovery providers that he co-founded. Earlier in his career, he was a partner in the New York City office of Arthur Andersen & Co., S.C.

In establishing this scholarship, Mr. Prounis noted that although he did not serve in the Foreign Service, international affairs has remained a lifelong passion. He also expressed the hope that this scholarship can ignite a deserving student’s career aspirations.

Qualified applicants for the Michael Prounis ’77 Washington Internship Award must be enrolled Brockport students at either the undergraduate or graduate level and be accepted into the Washington Internship Program. In addition, they must demonstrate academic excellence as determined by the selection committee as well as a commitment to pursuing a career in the U.S. Foreign Service, with a preference given to students who are focused on U.S.-African affairs.
