Monika W. Andrews Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Established in memory of his late wife by Dr. William G. Andrews, the Monika W. Andrews Memorial Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student in the baccalaureate nursing program at The College at Brockport preferably one who indicates an interest in community health.

Dr. Andrews, emeritus professor at the College, said his wife lived a life of service.

Mrs. Andrews trained as a nurse and entered the Peace Corps. She served in India, where she taught health care while running a clinic for medically under-served patients. In Brockport, she worked with volunteer programs, serving as president of Brockport’s ecumenical food shelf and initiating construction of a playground accessible to handicapped children. She built houses with Habitat for Humanity and taught inmates at the Albion Correctional Facility to knit. She also volunteered at the Aurora and Isaiah Hospice houses.

She and her husband were proud of their six children and 13 grandchildren. Mrs. Andrews passed away in 2011.

Qualified candidates for the Monika W. Andrews Memorial Scholarship in Nursing must be accepted into the baccalaureate program of the College’s Department of Nursing preferably with a goal of specializing in a career in community health. They must demonstrate a commitment to nursing and have at least two semesters of study remaining after receipt of this award. The selection committee will use candidates’ academic records and clinical performance in selecting the recipient.
