Norman J. Hill Award
Dr. Norman J. Hill ’45 established a scholarship at The College at Brockport to recognize an outstanding student from Byron-Bergen High School who is planning to pursue a career in teaching.
Dr. Hill earned his undergraduate degree from Brockport, his master’s degree in education from the University of Rochester and his doctoral degree from the University at Buffalo. He taught in the Spencerport, Middleport, and Albion school districts. He then served two years as principal of Byron-Bergen High School before joining the faculty at the College in 1964. He was a past trustee of the Village of Bergen and a charter member of the Rochester Chess Club.
Dr. Hill retired from Brockport as an associate professor in 1981, and he passed away in 2011.
Students who qualify for the Norman J. Hill Award must be a graduating senior from Byron-Bergen High School or a recent graduate from Byron-Bergen who is transferring to Brockport from another college who is enrolled at Brockport. Applicants also must plan to pursue a career in teaching, demonstrate high academic achievement as well as exemplary leadership qualities.
