P. Gibson Ralph Technical Theatre Scholarship
Supporting her interest in theatre design and technology, P. Gibson Ralph established a scholarship in the Department of Theatre at SUNY Brockport. The P. Gibson Ralph Technical Theatre Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student at the College who demonstrates the ability and potential required for excellence in a career in theatre design and/or technology.
In addition to her role as an associate professor, Ms. Ralph serves at the chair of the Department of Theatre and as its scenic designer. Before joining the Brockport faculty, she served as artistic director and designer at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology, where she supervised the construction and equipping of a new facility designed to accommodate the needs of a deaf audience and staff.
Currently she is a member-at-large on the Governing Council of the Association of Theatre in Higher Education and a circuit coordinator for Region II of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, based in College Park, MD. The KCACTF is committed to its educational mission of training the future leadership in American theater and to promoting inclusion and diversity in its leadership and programming. She also is a member of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
Professionally, for 17 years, she was a freelance scenic and lighting designer for Actors Equity Association and non-AEA companies, and she has sat on the boards of several professional theater companies. She continues to perform, on stage and in film, and to direct at the college level and professionally.
Qualified applicants for the P. Gibson Ralph Technical Theatre Scholarship are students accepted as theatre majors in the Department of Theatre and Music Studies who demonstrate academic excellence. Applicants also must submit a one-to-two-page essay describing their ability and dedication to excellence in a career in theatre design and technology. Preference will be given to a woman student.
