Ralph P. and Elizabeth B. Gennarino Scholarship

Dr. Ralph P. and Dr. Elizabeth B. Gennarino established a scholarship at SUNY Brockport to support a qualified student in any academic program.

Dr. Ralph Gennarino, emeritus vice president for Educational Services at Brockport, earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oneonta in 1946, his master’s degree from New York University in 1950, and his doctorate in education from the University of Colorado in 1971. He taught and served as principal for several schools in New York State before joining the College in 1962 as assistant dean of Operations. He later became assistant vice president of Operations and then vice president for Educational Services before retiring in 1977.

At Brockport, he earned a certificate of advanced study in Educational Administration in 1977. That year, he also received the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service. He was a recipient of the Brockport Alumni Association Service Award in 1994, and in 2006 the bridge connecting the Albert W. Brown Building to the Drake Memorial Library and the Gorden Allen Administration Building was dedicated in his honor, noting that he built bridges among students, faculty, and administration. Dr. Ralph Gennarino retired from Brockport in 1977 and passed away in 2015.

Dr. Elizabeth (Betty) Gennarino was a teacher with the Churchville-Chili School District for several years before joining the English Department faculty at Monroe Community College in 1965. She moved into administrative roles before retiring in 1980 as Dean of Curriculum at MCC. Dr. Betty Gennarino passed away in 2007.

Students who qualify for the Ralph P. and Elizabeth B. Gennarino can be current undergraduate or graduate students with any major who have completed a minimum of 24 credits at Brockport with a minimum GPA of 3.0. They must submit an essay that describes their commitment to life-long learning, and they must demonstrate a need for financial assistance as determine by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
