Roy and Helen Doody Scholarship in Business
Joseph ’74 and Margaret Doody established the Roy and Helen Doody Scholarship in Business at SUNY Brockport in honor of his mother Helen and in memory of his beloved father Roy. This scholarship recognizes Brockport students in the School of Business and Management who demonstrate academic excellence, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others.
For more than 40 year, Mr. Joseph Doody enjoyed leadership positions in some of the world’s best-known companies. From 1998 to 2017, he served in a series of executive leadership positions with Staples, culminating in his role as vice chairman. From 1974 to 1997, he had several leadership positions with Eastman Kodak Company, ending as general manager, Office Imaging, North America.
In addition to his executive career, Mr. Doody currently serves as a member of three corporate boards: Casella Waste Systems, where he became a director in 2004; Paychex, becoming a director in 2010; and Virtusa, where he became a director in 2017. He is past chair of the Brockport Foundation Board of Directors.
Students who qualify for the Roy and Helen Doody Scholarship in Business must be declared majors in one of the degree-granting programs in the School of Business and Management, have completed at least 54 credits, including 15 within the school, and have earned a GPA of 3.0 or better. In addition, applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic; show potential for excellence in their future career; and exhibit collegiality, respect for others, and a commitment to their community. Preference will go to candidates who are first-generation college students. Award recipients must commit to spending four hours a week to an engaged learning project, such as serving as a tutor or peer mentor, or working on projects with faculty or staff.
