School of Business and Management/David Hoffberg Ethics Award

David L. Hoffberg attended high school in Malverne, NY, received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 1953, and graduated from New York University Law School in 1955. In 1957, David and his family moved to Rochester, NY and joined Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Doyle and was made a partner in 1965. He held senior leadership positions with Nixon Peabody until his retirement in 2000 including member of the Management Committee, Chairman of the Operations Committee, Chairman of the Litigation Department and then Litigation/Administrative Law Section, and Member of the Partner Evaluation Committee.

Mr. Hoffberg began his involvement with SUNY Brockport in the late 1990s. After his first retirement in 2000, he combined his deep commitment to and interest in ethics with his love of teaching to create a seminar in the Honors Program on Professional Ethics. He taught until he retired again in 2013. He was a former chair of the Brockport College Council and a long-time member of the Brockport Foundation Board of Directors. He chaired the 1996 search that resulted in the hiring of former President Paul Yu, earning approval for including students in the search process. During this time, he also served on the Strong Memorial Hospital Ethics Committee as well as the Rochester Area Business Ethics Foundation.
Mr. Hoffberg passed away in 2022.

The School of Business & Management/David Hoffberg Ethics Award was established to honor the contributions to SUNY Brockport by David L. Hoffberg. The scholarship recognizes an outstanding School of Business & Management student who has demonstrated a thorough understanding of business ethics.

Scholarships
