Shannon Adams
Although Mr. Shannon Lewis Adams was proud to come from Star Lake, NY, where his graduating class was 34 students, he longed for something bigger. He graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1998 with a degree in accounting, and shortly thereafter sought employment and a new life in New York City. Along with two friends in the finance world, Shannon lived in Astoria.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Shannon was working as a fixed-incoming accountant with Cantor Fitzgerald on the 101st Floor of Tower One-World Trade Center. He was 25 years old.
Dr. Melissa Waite, associate professor in the School of Business and Management, recalled Mr. Adams as an affable and good-natured with many friends. “He was a bright and hard-working student,” said Dr. Waite in The Stylus issue dated October 3, 2001. She described him in the same article as having short blonde hair, a boyish face, and a warm smile.
Chris Leone, along with other classmates and friends, established the Shannon Adams Scholarship in Accounting at SUNY Brockport in memory of Mr. Adams who was killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The Shannon Adams Scholarship in Accounting recognizes a student who is committed to excellence in an accounting career.
