The Blaine M. DeLancey Award for Teaching Excellence in Secondary School English

Recognizing an outstanding secondary school teacher of English, the Blaine N. DeLancey Award for Teaching Excellence was established by Dr. Blaine DeLancey, his wife Floy Winks DeLancey, and their son Dr. Mark DeLancey. Dr. Blaine DeLancey served as a professor of English at Brockport from 1934 to 1967 and chair of the English Department from 1935 to 1966. He earned distinction for his outstanding scholarship in teaching English. Mrs. DeLancey was an associate professor in the Department of English at Brockport from 1942 to 1967.

Dr. and Mrs. DeLancey hoped their scholarship would encourage, recognize, and award an excellent teacher of secondary English, who also is a matriculated student in the secondary English program at SUNY Brockport.

In addition to serving as chair of the Department of English, Dr. DeLancey was Registrar for the College, beginning in the 1940s.

This scholarship recognizes a currently employed, certified teacher of secondary English who is enrolled in the Master of Science in Education program in secondary English at Brockport. The recipient must exemplify outstanding command of written and spoken English, inspire students to use English correctly, engages students in the discovery of personal values found in major areas of English, show the potential for growth as an educator, and demonstrates a positive, cooperative attitude toward students and colleagues.
