William & Betty Doyle Media Communication Scholarship

William & Betty Doyle Media Communication Scholarship

Michael Doyle ’80 established the William & Betty Doyle Media Communication Scholarship at SUNY Brockport to honor his parents for their support and for their belief in the value of the State University of New York and public higher education. This scholarship recognizes a current student at SUNY Brockport who is pursuing a career in communication.

Mr. Doyle, Chairman of the Board of the Brockport Foundation, credits his parents with instilling in each of their four children an appreciation of the value of a college education, specifically public higher education. Mr. Doyle and his three sisters each attended a SUNY school.

At Brockport, Mr. Doyle majored in communication, served as president of the Brockport Student Government, and was active with student-run radio station WBSU. Since graduating, he has worked in sales and marketing positions with broadcast organizations, from his early days in radio sales and later as station manager in Schenectady, Albany, and Syracuse to his leadership role today as president of sales operations for Entercom, one of the largest broadcasters in the U.S.

In his current role, Mr. Doyle has increased revenue, digitized sales efforts, and developed training and lead-generation capabilities, while overseeing revenue management, ad sales, marketing, and data analysis for Entercom. Entercom reaches more than 170 million people monthly through its portfolio of 230 radio states, two leading podcasting companies, live events, and digital platforms. It is the nation’s acknowledged leader in news and sports radio.

The William & Betty Doyle Media Communication Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student who is majoring in the Department of Journalism, Broadcasting, and Public Relations. Qualified applicants must be a junior or senior at Brockport when they receive this scholarship, have a GPA of 2.5 or better, and have worked at either campus radio station 89.1FM, WBSU, The Point; The Stylus; Brockport Television, and/or another media communication-related club or organization.
