Janie Hill International Scholarship
This scholarship encourages SUNY Brockport undergraduate students to study abroad. Applicants must be undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or better, accepted into a Brockport Study-Abroad Program, and demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
Applicants will be considered for this scholarship by the Center for Global Education and Experience at the time of application to your study abroad program.
The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
As a teacher in the American International School of Dusseldorf, Germany, Ms Janie Hill was first introduced to SUNY Brockport when she was selected to work as a supervising teacher for Brockport undergraduate student teachers assigned to this school. AIS Dusseldorf was an Overseas Teaching Center for Brockport’s Program for American International Schools Overseas, Department of Education & Human Development. As part of this program, Janie Hill was invited _to Brockport for graduate study, completing the MS degree in Educational Administration in 1985. Eventually, Janie returned to her homeland, England, and was Headmistress at Saint Martins in Solihull and Bremond College School in Coventry.
A world traveler, Ms. Hill has opportunities to travel extensively through Eastern Europe, the Far East, and USA and has taken opportunities to work in a number of these countries. She has been associated with several educational establishments over many years. She believes that exposure to foreign cultures can be one of the most life changing experiences a person can have. Janie is committed to investment in tomorrow’s leaders and has no doubt that those leaders will be better people for exposure to the wider world.
