Kanga Klothing/Watts Education Re-Enrollment Center Resilience Scholarship

This scholarship was established to provide students with the encouragement and financial support to complete their degree in the face of adversity and make a difference in their community by overcoming obstacles, and by becoming an elementary teacher in schools across urban areas. Eligible students are accepted for undergraduate admission and are incoming, first time freshman or incoming transfer who is committed to becoming a future educator. Applicants must demonstrate a potential for academic excellence and that they have faced adversity in their life and have shown that they are academically, emotionally, and socially resilient. Incoming education applicants accepted into the Childhood Inclusive Education-Multidisciplinary Education program are preferred. All eligible applicants will be considered and preference will be given to applicants who identify with a historically underrepresented minority group, in particular those who identify as black or African-American as well as those with permanent residency in Central or Western New York.

Eligible incoming students are considered for this opportunity based on their undergraduate admission application.

The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
