Eric M. Steel Scholarship

The Eric M. Steel Scholarship encourages an incoming first time or incoming transfer student with an excellent academic record, especially in English and/or French language studies, to enroll at SUNY Brockport. Applicants should be entering freshman or transfer students, demonstrate an excellent academic record in English and/or French studies, and demonstrate the potential for success in college.

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Steel, professor of French and English from 1943 to 197 4, and founding chairman of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature from 1964 to 1969. Dr. Steel was a pioneer among SUNY professors in developing and offering credit bearing programs of international study for undergraduate and graduate students throughout the SUNY system. Dr. Steel’s first credit-bearing course, including an eight-week guided European travel/study program, was in 1953.

Eligible incoming students are considered for this opportunity based on their undergraduate admission application.
