Maliekal-D'Souza Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Jose Maliekal and Mary D’Souza due to their belief in the transformative power of higher education and their commitment to removing barriers that prevent students from completing their SUNY Brockport education. Eligible students are matriculated, undergraduate SUNY Brockport majors within the School of Arts and Sciences who are rising sophomores, rising juniors, or rising seniors. Students must demonstrate the motivation, commitment, and trajectory to completing their academic course of study, be involved in at least one activity on- or off-campus, and demonstrate significant need for financial assistance as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) minus any other awarded scholarships or grants.

  • All eligible applicants will be considered however, preference will be provided to applicants who are rising sophomores at the time of application, first-generation, and/or students who identify with a historically underrepresented minority group, in particular those who identify as a student of color.
  • With all other eligibility factors met, the student with the greatest need for financial assistance shall be the recipient.

This is an Auto-Match Opportunity. Applicants are auto-matched to this award based on their submission of their General Application.

The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
