Elaine K. Miller Women and Gender Studies and Modern Languages and Cultures Scholarship

This scholarship honors an outstanding current student in SUNY Brockport’s Women and Gender Studies and/or Modern Languages and Cultures programs.
Eligible students must:

  • Be enrolled as a major or minor in the Department of Women and Gender Studies or in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures programs.
  • Have at least sophomore academic status at the time of selection.
  • Have successfully completed 15 credits within the Department of WGS and/or Department of MLC at SUNY Brockport at the time of scholarship disbursement. The credits can be earned in combination between the departments to total 15 credits or more.
  • Demonstrate academic excellence as determined by the selection committee.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to issues of social justice, particularly those with a women and/or gender focus through their interaction with college and/or community agencies and/or academic work as determined by the selection committee.

Preference will be given to applicants who, at the time of selection, excelled as a major in WGS or MLC, who established a record of social justice-related activities with college and/or community agencies that focus on women and/or gender issues, and are rising seniors.

This is an Apply-To Opportunity. Applicants will need to submit one or more additional items to be considered for this award after submitting the General Application.

The financial assistance is in the form of a check if the recipient is a graduate of SUNY Brockport before the fall semester of the award period. If the recipient is not a graduate by the start of the fall semester of the award period, the financial assistance will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period and the student must use this award for educational expenses at the College.
