Momchil D. Kyurkchiev '07 Mathematics Prizes

Thanks to the generosity of SUNY Brockport graduate Momchil D. Kyurkchiev, class of 2007, the Department of Mathematics will annually administer two competitive mathematics programs awarding a total of $1,000 to SUNY Brockport students. This fund was established to promote the applicability of mathematics among Brockport students and for them to demonstrate their mathematical skills and abilities. The Kyurkchiev Mathematics Olympiad (fall) and the Kyurkchiev Integration Bee (spring) competitions will be annually promoted and conducted by the Department of Mathematics Award and Competition Committee.

The Kyurkchiev Mathematics Olympiad ($500 available in prizes)
Similar to the national Putnam Mathematical Competition, students must work through a series of challenging mathematical problems. The selection of winners will be determined by scores on an examination that is created and scored by the selection committee. This competition will be held during the latter half of the Fall Semester.

  • Participants must be students enrolled in any academic course of study at SUNY Brockport at the undergraduate level.

The Kyurkchiev Integration Bee Competition ($500 available in prizes)
Similar to a Spelling Bee, students will compete with each other and solve Calculus II integrals during an allotted timeframe. All integrals will be of single variable type _and cover most integration techniques from MTH 202: Calculus II. The selection committee will determine the content of competition and it will be held during the latter half of the Spring Semester.

  • Participants must be enrolled in any academic course of study at SUNY Brockport at the undergraduate level, and have completed or be enrolled in Calculus II.

No applications are accepted for these prizes and the Department of Mathematics coordinates the procedures and selection of recipients.
