Reading Educator Emeriti Scholarship
This scholarship was established by emeriti professors who specialized in teaching literacy, Thelma Vinal Brown, Mary I. Luskey, Hazel S. Rency, and Dr. Frances Moroney Whited, to honor outstanding students dedicated to teaching literacy. This scholarship annually honors two outstanding students in a teacher certification program.
- One scholarship recognizes a graduate student in the Literacy Education Program in the Department of Education & Human Development, who holds a teaching certificate in Childhood or Adolescent Education, and who has demonstrated success in teaching literacy during student teaching or other structured situation.
- The second scholarship recognizes a student who has graduated from SUNY Brockport with an undergraduate degree in Education-Childhood or Adolescent Teacher Certification program. Preference will be given to a currently employed teacher at the elementary or secondary level. Applicants must demonstrate potential for future success in the literacy profession as judged by the selection committee.

The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
