Gloria Mattera Scholarship

The Gloria Mattera Scholarship recognizes an outstanding, incoming first time or incoming transfer student who has earned an excellent academic record, who is preparing for a career in education at the elementary or secondary level, and who has demonstrated outstanding potential for success in the teaching profession.

This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Mattera ‘52, member of the Brockport Alumni Association Hall of Heritage, Professor of Education at SUNY Geneseo, founder and Director of the BOCES Geneseo Migrant Center and nationally recognized leader in service to migrant farm workers of this country. The Gloria Mattera Heritage Society is named for her in appreciation for her dedication to SUNY Brockport. Dr. Mattera, in her lifetime, was dedicated to providing outstanding education for all children and to encouraging the best qualified young people to consider teaching as their career. She was a master teacher. It is this committee’s intention that this scholarship encourage and assist the best to enter the profession.

Eligible incoming students are considered for this opportunity based on their undergraduate admission application.

The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
