Darcy L. Bell Scholarship in Visual and Performing Arts
Jim Bell delivered funds to the Brockport Foundation, Inc. to establish the Darcy L. Bell Scholarship in Visual and Performing Arts. This scholarship honors his wife, Darcy L. Bell.
Darcy was dedicated to getting her master’s degree in social work at the University of Oregon graduating with honors at the age of 45. This was not just a career for Darcy, it was a calling. She believed deeply in the power of compassion and advocacy, striving to make a difference in the lives of others.
Darcy also believed that the outdoors offered a sense of peace and perspective, a reminder of the beauty in the world. She found joy in nature whether hiking through the mountains, sleeping under the stars or simply quiet moments observing nature’s beauty. Her flower garden was a kaleidoscope of color and without formal design her free spirit showed brightly. Darcy was known for her artistic flair and zest for life. She could see the beauty in the world around her, whether it was her flower garden or an inspiring piece of art, a dance recital or a play. Darcy’s artistic side showed through in everything she did. From painting to creating, she had a talent for transforming ordinary materials into something beautiful. This was not just a hobby it was her way to connect with the world and share her perspective.
Darcy taught us to appreciate the little things and to find art in everyday life. Reminding us that beauty can be found everywhere if we take the time to look. Throughout her life she never lost sight of things that mattered, a good education, family, connection with nature and her creative side. This scholarship will carry forward her spirit and creativity, her love of nature, and her passion for the arts. Darcy left us with a legacy that will continue to inspire us all.
