Francis Claffey Award
This fund was established by the Department of Biology to perpetuate the memory of Dr. Francis Claffey and to recognize an outstanding student majoring in biology that demonstrates academic excellence. Dr. Claffey joined the Brockport faculty in 1946 after teaching at the high school and college level in Massachusetts. He had also served as a fisheries biologist with the National Park Service. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine and his master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts. He earned his doctoral degree while on leave from Brockport in fresh water biology at Oklahoma State University.
Eligible students must
- Be a rising senior who is majoring in Biology.
- Demonstrate academic excellence as shown by a GPA of at least 3.25.
- Have completed at least 15 credit hours of the required biology major requirements at SUNY Brockport.
This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
