W. Wayne Dedman Award
Dr. W. Wayne Dedman served as a faculty member in the Department of History for more than three decades, being named Professor Emeritus on his retirement. He joined the faculty at SUNY Brockport in 1945 after receiving his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University, his master’s degree from the University of Chicago and his doctoral degree from the University of Rochester. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Dedman served as chair of the Faculty Senate and was active with the New York State American Studies Association. He is the author of Cherishing this Heritage, the centennial history of the State University College at Brockport. This award was established by his department colleagues to acknowledge his outstanding service to the College and the community at the time of his retirement.
Eligible students must
- Be a matriculated graduate student in the Department of History and will have completed at least nine (9) credits in their program before the award selection is made.
- Demonstrate academic excellence as judged by the Department of History scholarship committee and a GP A of at least 3.5.
This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. If the recipient is graduating, they will receive a cash award instead.
