Edward J. Kumar Administration & Finance Scholarship

Dr. Edward J. Kumar, who retired in 2002 after a 34-year career in administrative services at SUNY Brockport, served in various positions, including budget officer, director of purchasing, and controller, culminating in bis appointment as vice president for Administrative Services in 1986. In that role, he installed an administrative computing system that linked registration, accounting, and other records. He also focused on improving the physical plant and the student phone system.

This fund was initially established to recognize and provide financial assistance for the child or grandchild of a current full-time employee in the Division of Administration & Finance, the Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation (BASC), or the Research Foundation, who is an incoming student or a continuing student at SUNY Brockport. In the 2021 fund agreement revision, the eligibility was expanded to include spouses and close family members of current and former fulltime employees of the three units at SUNY Brockport.

Eligible students must

  1. Be the child, grandchild, spouse, or close relative of a current or retired full-time employee in the Division of Administration & Finance, BASC, or Research Foundation at SUNY Brockport. Preference will be given to a child or grandchild of current employees.
  2. Demonstrate the motivation and commitment to completing their academic course of study and demonstrate the potential for future success in their aspiring career as judged by the selection committee.
  3. Demonstrate a need for financial assistance as judged by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) minus any other awarded scholarships or grants.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
