Interdisciplinary Award in Mathematics
This award was established by mathematics professor Kazumi Nakano. In her view, mathematics has a widespread effect on all knowledge areas of the academic endeavor rather than as a specialized body of information. Mathematics crosses all subject areas either in theory or practice. This award will provide an educational expense grant to a student who meets the eligibility and criteria as listed below. The student that is selected must have an interest in the applicable nature of mathematics but does not necessarily have to be a math major.
Eligible students must
- Be a in their freshman or sophomore year of study at SUNY Brockport and show an interest in the applicable nature of mathematics as an interdisciplinary tool.
- Have completed at least two (2) mathematics courses at Brockport by the end of the semester that the award is given.
- Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above at SUNY Brockport as well as a GPA of 3.0 or above in all math courses taken at Brockport.
- Submit one paragraph expressing the reasons for their interest in the applicable nature of mathematics.
- Provide signatures of support from two (2) mathematics instructors.
This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant, split evenly between the fall semester and the spring semester. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
