Katharine M. Reichel Scholarship (Reichel Series)

This fund was established to honor the memory of Katharine Lucille MacLellan Reichel, charter member and first president of Alpha Alpha Chapter. A master teacher, Mrs. Reichel taught high school English in West Irondequoit, Brockport, and Corning and, following her retirement in New York State, she taught at Pierce College in Athens, Greece from 1963 until 1971. She also taught at the University of South Dakota and Prince Royal’s College, Chiengmai, Thailand.

This scholarship is the first of four scholarships to support an outstanding future educator throughout their studies at SUNY Brockport. The recipient may apply for renewal of the Chapter’s support for their second, third and fourth year of study if eligibility is maintained.

Eligible students must

  1. Be accepted for study at SUNY Brockport at the undergraduate level in any academic program that will lead to a career in education.
  2. Possess leadership qualities, outstanding academic ability, and potential for success in the education profession as judged by the selection committee.
  3. Provide at least one professional recommendation. It is preferred that the recommendation be provided by K-12 school educators such as school counselors, teachers, or administrators.

All eligible applications will be considered however, first preference will be given to applicants who attend a high school in Monroe County or in a school district where an Alpha Alpha member resides or is employed.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.

Incoming students are considered for scholarships based on their admissions application – they should not apply through the scholarship portal. For best consideration, students are encouraged to submit their application by February 15th.
