Gloria Mattera Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory of Dr. Mattera ’52, member of the Brockport Alumni Association Hall of Heritage, Professor of Education at SUNY Geneseo, founder and Director of the BOCES Geneseo Migrant Center and nationally recognized leader in service to migrant farm workers of this country. The Gloria Mattera Heritage Society is named for her in appreciation for her dedication to SUNY Brockport. Dr. Mattera, in her lifetime, was dedicated to providing outstanding education for all children and to encouraging the best qualified young people to consider teaching as their career. She was a master teacher.

The scholarship recognizes an outstanding, entering freshman or transfer student at Brockport preparing for a career in education, who has earned an excellent academic record and has demonstrated outstanding potential for success in the teaching profession.

Eligible students must

  1. Be an entering full-time freshman or transfer student
  2. Have an excellent academic record
  3. Demonstrate potential for excellence in the teaching profession as evidenced through leadership experiences, positive involvement with children and service to community and school

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.

Incoming students are considered for scholarships based on their admissions application – they should not apply through the scholarship portal. For best consideration, students are encouraged to submit their application by February 15th.
