Dr. Edward O. and Arline Stephany Award

This fund was established by Professor Emeritus Edward Stephany and Mrs. Arline Stephany, along with their colleagues, to honor Dr. Stephany on his retirement from Brockport. The name of the award was updated in Fall 2019 to recognize Arline’s 100th birthday. The award recognizes an outstanding student in the Department of Mathematics.

In 1947, Dr. Stephany joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the College at Brockport, where he taught for the next 33 years. He served as Chair of the department for 29 of those years. He served as president of the Faculty Council in 1965-66, and he was named a Professor Emeritus when he retired in 1980. Dr. Stephany passed away in September 2006.

Eligible students must

  1. Be accepted in the Department of Mathematics at the undergraduate level.
  2. Demonstrate academic excellence as judged by the Department of Mathematics selection committee.
  3. Demonstrate high quality of work in mathematics through learning activities outside the classroom, such as national exams, contests, and summer institutes.
  4. Have at least one semester of study remaining at Brockport as a mathematics major.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
