Donald M. Tower Award

Donald M. Tower (1897-1977) served as President of the College from 1944 to 1964. He guided Brockport through a period of profound change in terms of growth in enrollment, faculty, buildings and curriculum. The keynote of his administration was
“change through evolution, not revolution.”

Born in Dundee, New York, Dr. Tower received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Albany State Teachers College and his doctorate from New York University. He was a teacher and administrator at the public schools in Olean, Binghamton, and Mamaroneck. Before coming to Brockport, Dr. Tower served as director of training at Oswego State Teachers College.
