Jacques and Dawn Lipson Award in Visual, Performing or Creative Arts
This fund was established by Jacques and Dawn Lipson to provide assistance for an undergraduate or graduate student in the fine, performing, visual or creative arts to participate in professional level workshops or advanced level study, or to participate in dance, music, visual arts, theatre or literary festivals sanctioned by the College. For the purposes of this award, performing or creative arts include visual arts and music. Examples of fundable activity include:
For performing and fine arts students:
- Intensive summer dance study and training at the pre-professional level (such as attendance at the American Dance festival, Jacob’s Pillow, Bates, or similarly recognized programs of study).
- Study may be in the area of performance, choreography, or other areas within the area of performing arts, including music.
- Study may be in the US or abroad.
- Participation in the American College Theatre Festival (at either the regional or national level)
- Participation in the Theatre Association of New York State Annual Conference
- Attendance at the University/Resident Theatre Auditions (U/TRA) on order to audition.
For creative writing students:
- Participation in the Associated Writing Conference (A WP)
- Participation in advanced Writer’s Retreats (GELL Creative Writing Retreat in Canandaigua as just one example)
- Summer study at local or regional film festivals
Eligible students must
- Be pursuing additional instruction in their specific creative discipline.
- Have an overall GPA of 3.00 and an average of 3.50 in the major.
- Provide evidence of involvement in community service prior to being selected.
The preferred method of distribution is a non-tuition educational expense grant credited to the recipient’s bill. Alternatively, the recipient can be reimbursed for expenses related to their summer experience when appropriate paperwork and receipts are provided.
