Samuel, Elizabeth and Dr. Francis J. Manno Award

Dr. Francis J. Manno, emeritus professor of history (1963-1983), originally established a scholarship in memory of his parents, Samuel and Elizabeth Manno Award in 1982. Upon Dr. Manno’s death on May 8, 1998, Dr. Manno’s name was added to the scholarship’s title. Dr. Manno was a Navy veteran of WWII. According to a reliable source he was first assigned to naval patrol along the Atlantic coastline and later to the Pacific theater of operations where he performed duties for both the Navy and the Marine Corps. These duties included serving as a beach master for one operation that occurred sometime after the D-Day invasion and likely in Italy. After the war, he ran as a Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives.
