Harold Rakov Memorial Award

This award was established to honor the memory of Dr. Harold Rakov, (1918-1985), Professor of Political Science at Brockport from 1949 until his retirement in January, 1983, in recognition of his 35 years of exemplary service to the College as an inspirational leader and teacher dedicated to serving Brockport students and the Institution. The purpose of this award is to promote academic excellence in the Department of Political Science by recognizing political science majors who have demonstrated high-quality academic performance and promise.

Eligible students must

  1. Be matriculated as political science majors at SUNY Brockport who are currently in their junior years or preparing for their last year of undergraduate study at the time of selection. If the University discontinues the political science major, the award shall go to the best qualified student taking political science courses.
  2. Demonstrate outstanding academic performance, as evidenced by possessing a cumulative Brockport GPA of 3.5 or greater and a major GPA of at least 3.5.
  3. Demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities on- and/ or off-campus.
  4. Demonstrate a great promise for future success.

Financial need shall not be a criterion.

This award includes a non-tuition educational expense grant, that will be credited to the recipient’s bill, split evenly between the fall semester and the spring semester. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.

Recipients of this award are selected from internal nominations within the Department of Political Science and International Studies. Applications are not accepted.
