Evelyn L. Schurr Scholarship

This fund was established by Dr. Evelyn L. Schurr to recognize an outstanding undergraduate student in the Physical Education Teacher Education Major who has demonstrated commitment and potential for excellence in teaching.

Dr. Evelyn Schurr was a faculty member in the Physical Education Certification Program at SUNY Brockport. A well-known and respected educator, she was the author of Movement Experiences for Children, a book that offers a humanistic "approach to elementary school physical education, and its companion, Movement Experiences for Children: Curriculum and Methods for Elementary School Physical Education, published in 1967.

Eligible students must

1. Be matriculated in the Physical Education Teacher Education Major in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Science and Physical Education.
2. Plan to enroll in student teaching in the upcoming academic year with at least one semester, preferably two, remaining at Brockport.
3. Have earned a minimum GPA of 3.25.
4. Demonstrated exceptional skill and sensitivity in working with students.
5. Demonstrated commitment to education through joint recommendation of their School Based Teacher Educator or Supervising Teacher.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
