MHB Series: Marguerite Hare Browne Scholar Award

The Marguerite Hare Browne Scholar Award was established in recognition and celebration of the Marguerite Hare Browne Scholar who has successfully completed and received the full sequence of scholarships in the Marguerite Hare Browne Professional Education Awards & Scholarship Program and has completed the undergraduate teacher certification program at SUNY Brockport.

This special award is named for Marguerite “Peg” Hare Browne ’44, Associate Professor Emeritus, Education (1949-1985). Upon her retirement, Peg served as the Brockport Foundation Director of Special Projects and Emeriti Affairs until 1992. In 1983, her colleagues in the Greece Central School District and SUNY Brockport recognized her for her leadership role in development of the SUNY Brockport/Greece Teaching Center, a collaborative program serving both communities of scholars. In her honor, a committee of her colleagues led by Principal Fred Dean initiated the Marguerite Hare Browne Professional Education Awards & Scholarship Program. This program continues to honor and assist high school and college students, teachers, administrators, and community members.

Marguerite Hare Browne Scholar Award is the final scholarship in a a four-year sequenced scholarship package. It is provided at the discretion of the selection committee to recognize a graduating Marguerite Hare Browne Scholar – there is no application.

This is a cash award for graduating seniors.
