MHB Series: Rose R. Rock Scholarship

Born and raised in Belfast, NY, Rose R. Rock, benefactor of the College, was a businesswoman and a friend of Peg Browne. Through her gifts to the College, Miss Rock demonstrated her belief in the value of quality education and in her commitment to assisting worthy students as they pursue their education.

Rose R. Rock was the sister of Marguerite Rock Ward for whom the MHB Marguerite Rock Ward Scholarship was named and endowed by Peg Browne. “PayPay”, as Brockport students knew Marguerite in the early 1940s, was a special friend who, with her husband, Edward Ward, opened their College Street home in Brockport to them.

The MHB Rose R. Rock Scholarship is the third scholarship in a a four-year sequenced scholarship package. It is provided to the Marguerite Hare Browne Scholar in their third year as they continue to pursue a career in education – there is no application.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant, split evenly between the fall semester and the spring semester. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
